有關 Google Chrome plug-in 的消息一直受到一班程式編寫員的關注﹐大家也期待它會有 Firefox add-ons 一樣的活力。

但 Google 想的是另一樣東西﹐是一個和 ActiveX, Java Applet 和 Flash 一效高下的 Killer：Native Client

根據 Google 提供的資料﹐它最新一個 Experimental plugin Native Client (NaCl) 是一個容許 plug-in 在 NaCl 提供的 sandbox 裏行 native code 的 framework.

簡單來說﹐就是大部份在電腦上行得到的 Application 都可以 port 上 NaCl 裏行﹐Google 就以 H.264 Encoder 和 Quake 做例子

那樣聽落和 ActiveX 無乜分別﹐但 Google 指出 NaCl 就是要解決 ActiveX 在 Performance﹐Security 和 Flexibility 上的問題﹐另外最重要是 Cross-Platform Support.

今年 Google 在有了 Andriod 這戰線的情況下﹐竟然還敢另開 Chrome 戰線﹐實行全方位同 Microsoft 競爭﹐希望這份熱情不會因金融海潚而冷卻。
